Money market fund

A mutual fund that holds very short-term high-quality debt, targeting a stable $1 share price.

Why it matters

Money market funds are not FDIC-insured but historically maintain $1 per share. Yields track short-term interest rates. Useful for cash you want to earn a market yield on within a brokerage account.
