Unsubsidized loan (student)

A federal student loan that accrues interest while you're in school.

Why it matters

Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to undergrads and grads without a need requirement. Interest accrues from disbursement; paying it as you go prevents it from capitalizing at the end of the grace period.
