The wage and tax statement your employer sends you and the IRS in January.
Why it matters
Reports wages, federal and state tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare wages and taxes, and pre-tax retirement contributions. Every W-2 job requires one; you'll need it (or all of them) to file.
