ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund)
A fund whose shares trade on an exchange like a stock, usually tracking an index.
Why it matters
ETFs combine the diversification of a mutual fund with the intraday tradability of a stock. Most modern index funds are structured as ETFs, offering the same low expenses with slightly better tax efficiency in taxable accounts.
